Joeseph Orsot

Joeseph M. Orsot was born 1966 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the younger of two brothers. His older brother would go to work, leaving explicit instructions for Joe not to mess with his keyboards. Of course, Joe did not listen! He gives praise and thanks to God for giving him the ear and ability to perform on the piano and keyboards. When Joe was about 13 years of age, he was performing in a school combo for fun, when someone offered them a "real gig" in the tiny metropolis of Glenco, Louisiana. Seven musicians piled into a Plymouth Duster, which had the back seat removed to allow the overloaded vehicle to carry the PA, drums, guitars, and keyboard. The driver was the only one getting paid. That experience sums up the phrase "payin' your dues" on the blues circuit. Eventually, Joe came to realize that performing publicly was a real job, and it all became serious work. He began to write songs and joined with a band called Borderline, which performed together for 8 years, ultimately ending up placing third out of 4,014 bands in a nationwide battle of the bands sponsored by Service Merchandise. As the old saying goes, "All good things must come to an end.", and such was the case with Borderline. Joe rebounded from this setback and joined with Blues legend Big Ike, and he continues to perform with him whenever possible. As with any business, the market is very competitive, and Joe finds himself performing with Blues, R&B, Rock, Country, Jazz, and of course, Zydeco! Being from the South, this kind of diversity is only natural, even though it may mystify those from other parts of the country. It is simply a part of the musical culture here, which is an inclusive and unique blend of all that is good from every musical genre. Down here in Louisiana, when you attend a Zydeco Festival, and there are many of them, you pack up the whole family. It is just good, wholesome fun for everyone. If there is something you do not want the younger ears to hear, you simply sing it in the native tongue, Cajun French, just as the parents always did in front of the kids. Joe has written many songs, some published, some not. He is listed on the BMI website. He has opened for such acts as Johnnie Taylor, Denise LaSalle, Bobby Blue Bland, Little Milton, Latimore and B.B. King as well as Zydeco greats Buckwheat Zydeco, Beau Jacques, Roscoe Cheneire, Keith Frank and Chub Carrier. Currently residing in Southeast Texas, he still very much enjoys his roots and contributions to the Southwestern Louisiana, and can be heard performing with the Zydeco Boneshakers' and on their current release entitled "Show You How To Zydeco".
