Gerald Dunnaway was born January 16, 1958 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Gerald started his musical training at 7 years age. His father is vocalist Shelton Dunnaway of Cookie & the Cupcakes fame. In addition to being a seasoned vocalist, Gerald is one of the most energetic and solid drummers in the business. He has performed with such greats as Cookie & the Cupcakes, Superior Elevation and Blues sensation Big Ike. He now performs with the Zydeco Boneshakers as their drummer and percussionist, a position he has held for the past 3 years. Paired with bassist Pernell Babineaux they make up one of the most high-energy and diverse rhythm sections ever in Zydeco. These qualities are evident in abundance on the Zydeco Boneshakers' third release, "Show You How To Zydeco". As good as the recording is, I must say that to see the Zydeco Boneshakers performing live is one of the funkiest, high-energy musical experiences you'd ever treat yourself to. You will leave the show knowing without a doubt that the drums are not only Gerald's job, but indeed his passion!
